The RAC mentoring program is intended to familiarize new members with RAC’s role, responsibilities, resources, and activities. When a new RAC member is appointed, the Regional Chair will call her/him to introduce the mentoring program and to provide the new member with a mentor—an experienced RAC member from the same AASHTO region—within one month. The mentor will then schedule a series of meetings or telephone conversations. The frequency of discussions and length of the mentoring program is determined by the mentor and mentee. In general, scheduling time for discussion at least once a month is recommended.
In order to maximize the benefit of the mentoring relationship and facilitate discussion, the following guidelines are recommended for use. A checklist for both mentors and mentees is included:
