AASHTO RAC MEMBER SURVEY RESULTS

Title: Thrie Beam Guide Rail

Date of Survey: 9/26/2016

Survey Detail/Results: The New Jersey Department of Transportation is interested in learning which other states use a NCHRP 350 TL-4 crash tested modified thrie beam guide rail and dual faced modified thrie beam guide rail, see attached details, on their roadways.

Please forward the survey below to the appropriate person in your department responsible for guide rail standards and/or guide rail design.
1. Does your state use this or a similar modified thrie beam guide rail design? (See the attached drawings)

2. With the FHWA/AASHTO Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) update in mind, it’s estimated that two tests are needed to ensure that the modified thrie beam and dual faced modified thrie beam design is MASH TL-3 compliant.

If your state uses this design, would your DOT have interest in coordinating efforts to fulfill these testing requirements?

If so, please provide contact information.
