This survey is connected with the pooled fund study TPF-5(381) on the lateral resistance of bridge abutment piles behind mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is working with a BYU research team, FHWA, and the following state DOTs on this phase of the study: CA, FL, KS, MN, NY, and WI. We are requesting input from all state DOTs regarding current practices for estimating the lateral resistance of bridge abutment piles behind MSE walls.
